Haiti Week in Essex

As part of an initiative to bring greater awareness of Haiti,  Hospital Albert Schweitzer and Sister Cities Essex Haiti to southeastern Connecticut, the merchants of Essex participated in “Haiti Week”.  Prior to Sister Cities Essex Haiti’s fundraiser on October 22, 2010, Have a Heart for Haiti, participating merchants displayed information about the fundraiser and displayed arts and crafts from Haiti.  Several merchants have opted to continue their displays into the holiday season.  Sister Cities Essex Haiti thanks all participating merchants:

Essex Books, 2 Essex Square, Essex, CT 860-767-1707 displayed and promoted books on Haiti.

Essex Savings Bank was one one of the sponsors of the fundraiser and had a photo display of Hospital Albert Schweitzer and information about the Fundraiser at their branch locations.

Page Taft Real Estate had an exhibition of Haitian paintings that were offered for sale to the general public. See (http://www.pagetaft.com/real_estate/Essex.asp)

Prestige Yachts had an exhibition of Haitian metal art work that were offered for sale to the general public. See http://www.essexct.com/businessinfo.php?bus=151

Silkworm of Essex offered for sale a variety of baskets that are made by artisans in Deschapelles out of discarded plastics.  Visit them on their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Essex-CT/Silkworm-of-Essex-Village/127509780612754

That’s the Spirit Shoppe, 11 Main Street, Essex, had a window display of a Haitian painting of sugar cane harvesting and rum making, as well as different rums.

Village Provisions, 2 Essex Square, Essex sold Haitian Coffee, Cafe Rebo.  All proceeds were contributed to Sister Cities Essex Haiti.

Tennis Update:

Kim Bergner, MD is a huge supporter of the SCEH tennis program at the Club Tennis Deschapelles (CTD) in Deschapelles, Haiti. She sponsors fundraisers and gathers donors for the program.
